Bin Density Calculator Guide

The Bin Density Calculator helps you find the sweet spot between maximizing production and avoiding overcrowding.

Optimal stocking density:

  • Adults: 1-2 per cm2 of floor space
  • With egg-carton inserts: 3,000-5,000 adults per standard 60x40cm bin
  • Without inserts: Only 1,200-2,400 adults per same bin
  • Pinheads: Can stock at 5-10 per cm2 due to small size

  • Overcrowding warning signs:

  • Increased chirping volume and visible aggression
  • Crickets climbing walls excessively
  • Feed disappearing faster than expected
  • Higher mortality from cannibalism

  • Vertical stacking: 5-8 layers is practical with proper racking. Allow 5-10cm clearance between layers for airflow. Bottom bins tend to run cooler and more humid.
